南昌理工学院坐落在“物华天宝、人杰地灵”“天下英雄城”江西省南昌市，学校占地面积达3800亩，拥有英雄和丰城两个校区，校舍建筑面积近100万平方米。学校下设16个教学学院，教学科研仪器设备总值3.95亿元，建有316个实验（实训）室，456个校外实习基地，拥有国家级职业教育实训基地1个，省级实验教学示范中心3个；馆藏图书文献资料356万余册，电子图书172余万册，各类中外文数据库16个。学校以“科教兴赣、科技强省”为目标，主动对接和精准服务江西省“1269”行动计划，构建了以工为主，理、经、管、文、法、艺、教育等学科专业交叉融合、协调发展的学科专业体系，设有66个本科专业（在招专业53个）。现有江西省高校重点学科2个，国家级特色专业1个，省级特色专业建设点6个，省级一流专业建设点3个，省级专业综合改革项目3个，“卓越工程师人才培养计划”项目3个，省级人才培养模式创新实验区2个。现有全日制在校生3.3万人。
2012年，通过教育部本科教学合格评估，专家组一致评价：南昌理工学院是民办教育的一面旗帜；2018年，通过教育部本科教学工作审核评估，专家组一致认为：南昌理工学院是全国示范性民办高校，国防教育特色鲜明，军魂育人成效显著；2020年被江西省民政厅评为“AAAAA”级社会组织。2016年、2022年分别被江西省人民政府学位委员会列为“十三五”“十四五”硕士授权立项建设单位。2024年11月，接受了教育部本科教育教学审核评估，专家组对学校本科教育教学工作给予了充分肯定。2023年、2024年连续两年在全省民办高校年度检查中被评为“优秀等次”。2025年被江西省民政厅再次评为“AAAAA”级社会组织。
Nanchang Institute of Technology is a private ordinary undergraduate (second-tier) college approved by the Ministry of Education, which was founded in May 1999; In April 2001, it was upgraded to a higher vocational college with the approval of the People's Government of Jiangxi Province, which was named Jiangxi Aerospace Science and Technology Vocational College; In May 2005, approved by the Ministry of Education, it was upgraded to the first batch of private undergraduate universities in Jiangxi Province and named Nanchang Institute of Technology(NIT). Nanchang Institute of Technology was conferred by the State Ministry of Education and entitled the academic degree granting authority ratified by Jiangxi Academic Degree Committee to confer Bachelor’s degree in April 2009. NIT was the first batch of private colleges and universities in Jiangxi Province which successfully passed the qualification evaluation of undergraduate teaching at one time by the State Ministry of Education in 2012. The expert group unanimously commented that Nanchang Institute of Technology is an outstanding leader of private education. NIT has signed the contract of joint training of postgraduate students with East China Jiaotong University in April 2015, which has been formally carried out recently. In April 2017, it was listed by the Academic Degrees Committee of the People's Government of Jiangxi Province as an authorized Master Degree construction unit of the “13th Five Year Plan”; In February 2018, it was named by the Ministry of Education as a characteristic school of national defense education; In November 2018, it successfully passed the review and evaluation of undergraduate teaching by the Ministry of Education. The expert group agreed that Nanchang Institute of Technology is a national demonstration private university with distinctive national defense education characteristics and remarkable achievements in educating people with military spirit. In 2021, it was listed by the Academic Degrees Committee of Jiangxi Provincial People's Government as the authorized Master Degree construction unit of the “Fourteenth Five Year Plan”.

It has 1 national vocational education training base, 3 provincial experimental demonstration teaching centers, 244 (263) laboratories and 255 (365) practice and training bases. The total area of the university library is 53,000 square meters, including 30,000 square meters of graphic information center, 5,426 (5,757) reading seats, 3,050,000 books and documents, and 190 (1,901,125) electronic books, 16 various kinds of Chinese and foreign databases, such as Cnki, Super Star, Wanfang, Emerald, etc, which is rich in books and digital resources.
